The TECHNICS KN3000 and GM Songs

The TECHNICS KN3000/3500 already operates with an extended GM-standard (instead of only one "standard drumkit", there are 8 different drumkits, which are selected automatically). With the USER-SOUND-SET  I have created you now have the possibility of going still another step further toward larger sound variety.

This software is the only way to play your GM-Songs (MIDI-files) with the TECHNICS-user-drumkit in KN3000 / KN3500. Normally this doesn't work, but I have programmed a complete new drum-set for TECHNICS 3000 / KN3500 especially in General.Midi-mode. But it doesn't run just by loading from diskette, because by loading into  TECHNICS-format octave-shifts occur in a few instruments, as you will know. Using my software you can also repair these differences. When the Song is ready, it plays absolutely error-free.

First you have to transmit the original GM-Song into the TECHNICS-format. A view into the track plan (by MIDI HITS) and the 18 correcting sounds on the diskette is sufficient to determine whether a sound, and which one, must be exchanged. The bass in "track 2" can remain unconsidered, since this track always ought to be shifted up 1 octave. This is important, so that the (12 !!) new TECHNICS-Basses  can also be used. Beyond that approx.120 new sounds are available. Even the "user-sounds" can now be inserted.

On average only one sound has to be exchanged. This isn't too much, since the result you get is great!!! You can use now all the TECHNICS-Sounds (exception: DIGITAL-DRAW-BAR).

The USER DRUM KIT was programmed by me on a "synth basis", since these sounds could not be used at all using the KN3000 up to now. If you want to change some drum-instruments you have to go into the "DRUM-EDITOR". The DRUM-EDITOR informs you about the momentary playback situation. You will find snare data  under Midi-Note-Number (MNN) 38 or 40 (more rarely also under 28, 31 or 37). Bass-drum data are placed only under MNN 35 or 36.  Optimal position for playing the Snare is Midi-Note-Number (MNN) 38 !! The best position for the Bass-drum is MNN 36 !! Only there you have direct access to all further parameters (like volume, panorama and reverb). Using the program "NOTE CHANGE" you can easily transmit the data to these places, if they are not there. Then you can exchange the parameters of this sounds per "SOUND EDIT - key" (Please take a look into your TECHNICS-instruction-manual). But you also can use my programmed "drum-sounds" too (please take a look into "MNN-area" 12 to 25 and  95 to 102) . I've placed many drum instruments there for you. All you have to do, is transmit the instrument data to these places using the program "NOTE CHANGE".

If you don't want to go any deeper into editing however, I have already stored 6 different synth snares on my disc. The sound will be changed by simply loading from the disc. Isn't that convenient? (The requirement is that the snare is placed at MNN 38!!).

Thus far a small technical overview. Bring out the best in your KN3000/3500 - it's a lot!! Have a nice time.....

G.A.
